Since 1997, Harvesters—The Community Food Network has been a cornerstone in the mission to create equitable access to nutritious food in Kansas City—and local independent insurance agency The Miller Group has been proud to support them every step of the way. As The Miller Group’s first nonprofit client, Harvesters’ commitment to fighting hunger instantly aligned with the agency’s dedication to lifting up the community.
The Miller Group team regularly volunteers at Harvesters’ warehouse, sorting and packing food—a tradition that brings their staff closer to the mission. They also host annual food drives, and last year teamed up with a client in a friendly competition, raising over $11,000 and collecting 4,000 food items. When a denied insurance claim threatened to drain Harvesters’ resources, The Miller Group fought vigorously, winning coverage for a parking lot repair that freed up funds to provide 48,000 meals.
“This experience reinforced how our work as insurance professionals can have a direct, meaningful impact on the community,” says Ryan Miller, Senior Vice President, Property & Casualty Advisor, The Miller Group. “As more families than ever rely on Harvesters Community Food Network, supporting their work allows our agency directly and indirectly be there for our neighbors during challenging times.”
A $10,000 Make More Happen Award would provide 20,000 meals for families struggling with food insecurity across 27 counties in northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. It would sustain Harvesters’ initiatives including pantries, drive-thru mobile food pantries, community kitchens, and out-of-school meals and snacks for local students. Vote for The Miller Group to bring hope, nourishment, and relief to those facing food insecurity.
