When children don’t have enough to eat over the weekend, showing up ready to learn on Monday becomes nearly impossible. Baltimore Hunger Project removes that barrier by providing food and resources to children facing food insecurity in Baltimore County and City. Maury Donnelly & Parr, Inc., in Cockeysville, Maryland, has supported this mission since 2024, drawn to an organization doing meaningful work just minutes from their main office.
The agency’s involvement is hands-on and consistent. About 20 employees participate at a time, gathering at Baltimore Hunger Project’s warehouse to pack care packages that fit discreetly into children’s backpacks for the weekend. In two hours, the team typically packs around 600 packages. Those who cannot attend in person contribute by writing small notecards of encouragement placed inside each bag.
What makes the experience stick is how Baltimore Hunger Project frames the work before it begins. Volunteers are invited to share their own stories, whether they have experienced food insecurity personally or know someone who has.
“You leave the event with such profound understanding and will to do more,” Joslyn Bredholt shared. “You think about how hard it could possibly be to experience food insecurity at such a young age.”
A $10,000 Make More Happen award could help Baltimore Hunger Project expand its reach significantly. At just $30 to feed a child for a month, the impact of this award could be felt across hundreds of Baltimore families.
