When hunger threatens a family’s stability, The Open Door answers with fresh food, dignity, and neighbor-to-neighbor care. As Dakota County’s largest hunger relief organization, The Open Door makes sure everyone who needs it can access healthy meals—an effort that resonated deeply with Farmers Union Agency (FUA).
“As an insurance agency dedicated to protecting people, Farmers Union Agency sees fighting hunger as part of that mission. Food security is fundamental, so when families don’t know where their next meal is coming from, education, health, and financial stability all suffer,” says Josh Vickerman, President, Farmers Union Agency. “Like us, The Open Door believes in neighbors helping neighbors, and we’re proud to be part of that effort.”
The agency recently assembled more than 400 snack bags and collected nearly 2,000 pounds of food and household essentials, which is an amount comparable to what the entire city typically contributes. To further support the effort, FUA contributed $2,500, reinforcing its dedication to giving back to the communities it serves. Watching pounds of food and essential items being donated was powerful for the FUA team, but dropping off donations to The Open Door is what made the experience unforgettable.
With additional funding, The Open Door can put healthy food on shelves and in hands, expanding food access beyond the pantry and ensuring the nonprofit can respond quickly during emergencies or spikes in demand. Your vote can secure a $10,000 Make More Happen Award for Farmers Union Agency and The Open Door to keep healthy food on tables in Minnesota.
