Growing up in a family plumbing business, Scott Metzler learned early on the skills and values that the trades offer. Now as agency principal at Goosehead Insurance, Metzler Agency, he saw an opportunity to use his own skills and connections to further the mission of ecoREHAB. The nonprofit is dedicated to advancing the community through sustainable design, rehabilitation, and education, providing at-risk youth with opportunities to learn both construction skills and essential soft skills like communication and conflict resolution through its Skilled Trades Education Program (STEP).

Scott has dedicated countless hours to transforming ecoREHAB’s new headquarters—an abandoned lumber yard—into a thriving training center, doing the hard work of clearing unwanted brush, painting, and making repairs. He spearheaded the first grant for the facility’s transformation, building an outdoor multi-use space for classrooms and fundraisers. He has since secured sponsors for fundraising events like the annual Oktoberfest and regularly organizes events to introduce local businesspeople and community partners to the mission and keep them updated on projects and trainings.

Scott recently saw ecoREHAB’s impact firsthand when speaking to a graduating STEP student. The student had no one to invite to the graduation ceremony – STEP had been the first place where he had been surrounded by people who had truly supported him, cared about what he was learning, and wanted to see him succeed.

“Our agency knows the importance of being supported and having the right resources when confronted with challenging times. ecoREHAB is more than a training program—it’s a place where young people find belonging, support, and hope,” says Scott, who has served as ecoREHAB’s board president and remains actively involved as a community connector.

A $10,000 Make More Happen Award would fund the construction of indoor restrooms at ecoREHAB’s facility, replacing the current outdoor portable restrooms. This essential amenity will enable the program to expand enrollment and host more community events, amplifying ecoREHAB’s mission to transform lives and the community. Vote for Goosehead Insurance, Metzler Agency to help build not only structures but brighter futures.
