Children with cancer and their siblings often live in a world of no, but with the help of Horizon Day Camp and RCM&D, they get a summer full of YES!

Horizon Day Camp is dedicated to restoring the joy of childhood for children with cancer and their families. Serving children throughout the state of Maryland, Horizon Day Camp offers an inclusive, full-summer day camp, along with year-round programs, and in-hospital activities – all provided free of charge – for children with cancer and their siblings. They are dedicated to providing families with a much-needed reprieve and creating moments of joy in a world often filled with “no.” With the support of pediatric oncologists and nurses, the camp welcomes children of all mobility levels, helping more than 160 kids thrive emotionally and socially in a safe and supportive environment. RCM&D matches that dedication by volunteering, donating and supporting the organization in a number of different ways.

“Our firm believes in providing people with peace of mind, through our services and support for the community,” says Katie Caple, Corporate Outreach and Learning & Development Specialist, RCM&D. “Horizon Day Camp creates a world where children can be themselves, free from the burdens of illness. We are proud to support this incredible organization that allows kids to be kids in a safe and nurturing environment designed for them.”

At Horizon Day Camp, campers can thrive socially and emotionally, having fun and making friends without the stigma of their diagnoses. With the added support of a pediatric oncologist and nursing staff, the camp accommodates children of all mobility levels, ensuring that everyone is included in the fun. To make summer magical and provide joy year-round, RCM&D goes above and beyond with their support.

  • RCM&D held a year-round fundraising campaign leading up to the 28th annual Regatta, of which Horizon Day Camp was a beneficiary in 2023. The campaign was supported by all employees and carrier partners. The firm created a video and social media campaign to promote Horizon Day Camp’s programming, collected “wish list” items for use at camp, including games and craft supplies, and sponsored camp entertainment with appearances by princesses and a magician.
  • Each summer, the team of RCM&D interns spend a day volunteering at camp; in the fall, employees and their families participate in HorizonWALKS to help raise money and awareness for Horizon Day Camp, and RCM&D is represented on their board.
  • The firm also hosts an annual toy drive and holiday party for the children and families served by Horizon Day Camp. In addition to gifts for the children, the party features music, dancing, craft stations, balloon artists and other entertainment. For those that are in the hospital and unable to attend the event, RCM&D brings the party to them, with special appearances from Santa and the Oriole Bird. During their visit this past year, they met a 15 year-old patient that had just gone through a complicated procedure earlier that day. When the Oriole Bird came to visit him, he was just as excited as the younger children were when Santa walked into their hospital rooms!

The $10,000 award will directly fund transportation, which is part of the free, full-summer day camp experience, along with program supplies, special events, and staffing for more than 160 children impacted by cancer, helping to ensure every child can attend camp and enjoy their summer to the fullest. By voting for RCM&D, you can help create unforgettable experiences for children. Join us in making a difference – vote today!

My children go to Horizon Day Camp. They love it so much. I’m grateful for the camp because it’s nice my daughter got to experience camp life despite her diagnosis!
