The Sam & Nada Simon Foundation has hosted an Annual Military Holiday Party at Selfridge Air National Guard Base for 13 years. Due to COVID-19, this year’s event, which regularly draws more than 2,000 servicemembers and their families, was canceled.
However, the Foundation is fundraising to host holiday events at various veteran charities. One of those charities is Piquette Square, run by Southwest Solutions. Piquette Square is a 150-unit apartment project in Detroit which houses and supports homeless veterans. Piquette Square offers mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, on-site job training, computer labs, educational programs and other support services to help the veterans develop healthy and independent living skills.
