Juan Luengo and his co-workers help Mental Health America of the Heartland by serving as ambassadors to promote the agency and the success of its programs in the community. Juan and his agency also help the organization by consulting on operational issues, including insurance coverage. Juan is being nominated to join the MHAH governing Board in 2021.
Mental Health America of the Heartland is dedicated to promoting the mental health of the community and improving the quality of life of persons with mental illness, through advocacy, education and support. In this picture, MHAH resident James explains how he builds models from LEGOs to volunteer Juan Luengo. James has a long history of homelessness and psychiatric hospitalization that ended when he entered MHAH’s housing program in 2001. Since that time James has lived in his own apartment, shared support with other residents, started and maintained the community garden, and developed hobbies like LEGOs.
James has a great mentor on his side these days!
Excellent initiative, especially during challenging times. We need more people like you that make people aware how important mental illness is and to maintain a good physical health.
Spending time with James showed me the need that our community has regarding mental illness. It’s institutions like MHA that not only bring awareness, they are a resource and most importantly, open the doors to those in dire need of help.
Thank you for this and I shared this on my social media.
