Hands for Hearts supports families of children born with congenital heart defects (CHDs) by connecting them to financial aid, medical resources, and compassionate community care. Its services cover emotional and practical needs, including providing a support network for families, collecting presents for families in need over holidays, equipping local schools with defibrillators, and funding pediatric cardiology research. After years of sponsoring and volunteering at events, Oak Ridge Insurance Services, in conjunction with Bank of Oak Ridge, wanted to do more to alleviate the strain on parents.
Oak Ridge Insurance Services’ involvement goes beyond writing checks. The agency sponsors Hands for Hearts’ Casino Night, its staff serve on the board for fundraising and event planning, and employees across the bank participate in an annual giving campaign and are granted paid time off to volunteer. The team has been known for delivering gifts for kids and their families during the holidays and packing backpacks with food and other essentials.

Hands for Hearts would use the $10,000 Make More Happen Award to purchase two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for local schools, stock backpacks for families dealing with extended hospital stays, or provide direct financial relief to patient families.
